For this advertisement campaign of purses, I was both a photographer and a stylist. I thought it would be fun to show you my creative process for this project.
My assignment was to create an ad photo campaign for the series of the small beaded clutches.
First stage: Look at the number of small bags, see and feel the mood and a style. They were on the smaller side, more like cosmetic bags, with no handle, so they seemed not too practical for everyday use. They were most definitely very colorful, very fun, with a bit of a retro feel. So those attributes and adjectives came to mind: FUN, SUN, DISCO, RETRO, BRIGHT COLORS, VACATION, REST, VIBRANCY, SUMMER, CHILLING, BEACH, TROPICAL, HOBBIES, 70s-80s.
Summary: Campaign, advertising clutch purses. 3 clutches are used, united by the same style. Those are bright, fun summer purses. Will use bright contrast colors. To underline the main idea and style of the ad campaign, we'll us the style and the vibe of 60s-70s-80s; vibrance of colors, retro shapes and forms, playful mood and humor.
Here you can see the examples of the mood boards I have created for this project. Mood boards are visual references, presentation of general idea and details of a project.
The name of the campaign then came on its own, just like that - "Pleasure In Leisure". Isn't that true, anyways?! :)
So, the first two pages illustrate the name, general theme, mood, and colors.
The rest of the pages go into more details. For each particular shot or scene, I put the color background I'm planning on using, clothing and accessories, props, approximate pose - all together give a very good idea about the shoot. During a session, those pages-references were also very useful, so I could consult them not to forget any little details.
The boards include even the examples of hair style and make up we were going to use for the model.
Following the main theme and vibe, I was using the bold style of 70s and 80s. I see the hair, makeup, and clothes to match that period in fashion. It shouldn't have been an exact replica, obviously, enough to convey the idea. You see the clothing and accessories, holding in them the fashion DNA of 70s-80s.
Relaxed, fun, very casual posing adds to the whole picture.
See the final results I've got. You are welcome to leave a comment on how I did. :)
Thanks for watching!
